A Traditional English Pub serving great food
Situated in the beautiful rolling countryside of East Leicestershire, The Fox & Hounds is off the A47, ten miles east of Leicester in the village of Tugby. It is popular with walkers and cyclists as there are many footpaths and cycle routes nearby including the Midshires Way and Rutland Water, which offers additional activities including fishing, sailing and bird watching. The main building dates back to circa 1650 and was an old coaching inn. Now it has a restaurant seating 40, plus lounge and bar areas and a patio area (with heaters) for al fresco eating and drinking. There is also a separate games room for pool and darts.
There is a comprehensive menu offering “Chef’s Specials” which are changed regularly. Whenever possible local produce is used with meat coming from the village butcher (whose sausages are excellent), trout is from the Rutland Reservoirs and game from local shoots. Lunchtime snacks and the Chef’s Specials are available Monday to Friday from noon until 2pm. The evening menu is available from 6pm to 9:30pm Monday to Saturday. Sunday has the traditional Sunday Lunch as well as the full menu from noon until 4pm.
Some of the more popular dishes from the Chef’s Specials list are:
· Chicken breasts stuffed with Stilton and mushroom served with a leek and garlic sauce
· Local sirloin steak topped with Long Clawson Stilton and asparagus
· Medallions of pork with a wild mushroom sauce
· Noisettes of lamb on a bed of spring onion & chive mash with a rosemary and garlic
sauce
· Salmon steak with a prawn sauce in filo pastry
