AA Pub of the year for England 2005-2006

The Red Lion Inn has its own unique character and is a traditional local bar serving real ales, lagers and speciality bottled beers.  The interior houses an informal lounge with magazines, newspapers, comfy chairs and sofa, an informal dining area and a more formal and elegant dining room. The Red Lion Inn is situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Stathern. With friendly and approachable staff, a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere and fantastic food, it is no wonder that the Red Lion has already been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand, AA Pub of the Year for England 2005-06 and received a glowing recommendation when placed in the Independent’s 50 Best Country Pubs, “Informality, real Ale, fine wine and good quality food using local produce”

The food served at the Red Lion Inn really is something a bit special and the food will be of the same quality whether you are sampling a tasty snack or a three course a la carte meal.  Produce from the best local suppliers is sourced to service the daily-changing menu that may include such delights as, Salad of local peppered beef, cropwell bishop stilton, balsamic dressing or deep fried whitebait aioli. For main course why not try Smoked Haddock, saute potatoes, tomato & red pepper relish or Roast Loin of venison, red cabbage, parsnip mash, roasted root vegetables.  Make sure you save some room though, because the desserts and puddings served at the Red Lion Inn really are mouth-watering and truly sensational.  How could you resist vanilla crème brulee, Kahula ice cream, shortbread; white chocolate cheesecake, strawberry sorbet, or lemongrass pannacotta, apricot compote, rhubarb sorbet.

The Red Lion serves locally brewed real ales, farmhouse bottled ciders and continental lagers.  Some fantastic bottled beers have been sourced that go really well with food, and make an interesting alternative to wine. Seasonal speciality country cocktails are also made behind the bar; enjoy a delicious Pimms and Strawberry Vodka in the rear garden in the summer, or Mulled Wine and Sloe Gin in the winter.  Working up an appetite is no problem in the beautiful village of Stathern.  A heart-pounding walk up into the deciduous woods above Stathern yields beautiful views over the Vale and, for the more adventurous, can be continued right up to Belvoir Castle itself.
