About us.
Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe.
Dickinson and Morris are the oldest remaining bakers of the authentic Melton Mowbray Pork Pie in the town today. In 1992, after fire had devastated the period style building, Samworth Brothers bought the property and carried out extensive refurbishment and renovation in conjunction with English Heritage. Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe reopened in October of that year, and re-established the town's envied position as the centre of excellence for all pork pies. In response to the high demand for Dickinson and Morris pork pies nationwide, they were launched nationally through leading high street retailers in 1996. Due to this unprecedented demand, the baking of these pies now also takes place at a bigger bakery located just outside of Leicester.Continued demand for such quality products led to the opening of The Sausage Shop next door, offering a wide variety of premium speciality sausages. More recently, Dickinson & Morris has established a chilled mail order service and online ordering (www.porkpie.co.uk) as a means of keeping all their passionate customers happy.
Dickinson & Morris have received a number of accolades for the quality of their products and service.Their Melton Mowbray Pork Pie has won both Gold and Silver Great Taste awards, whilst the Shoppe itself has won “Excellence in
Dickinson & Morris are members of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association (MMPPA), who are currently undergoing a legal battle to attain Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status for Melton Mowbray Pork Pies. This would mean that the production of pies with the name ‘Melton Mowbray’ would be restricted to a defined geographical region around the town, the pork should be British, natural and uncured and that the pies are baked with no support.
