Are you a mod or a rocker? Where you a mod or a rocker? Born again biker?

Back in the sixties the mods and rockers invaded our sea side towns on their scooters and motorbikes causing some fun and games to say the least. They also had a bit of a meeting at the Old red house in Knipton, Vale of Belvoir one summers evening by all the local accounts, it certainly was entertaining but not vieved that way by the local Police force!

Well I suppose that if you are not fifty five plus you will not know what a mod and rocker really is or for that matter was? You may have herd of bourn again bikers well that is a starting plaace for your out and out rocker. The film quadrafina and the music of the time is still definatly mod!

Mod or modernists as known in the press at the time, were known were a youth culture that liked Scooters, Vespers and Lambrettas being the main transport and they followed scar music, all had the famous parka jackets and were generally regarded as being the smarter dressed than your average rocker of the time!

The Rockers had their own simple uniform which consisted of a black leather jacket, denim jeans, black, leather, boots and the distinctive white socks which were rolled over the tops of the boots. A white scarf was regarded as a great fashion accessory. The scarf was made of best quality silk and the rockers liked rock and roll music, hence the name rocker! Many sporting the Elvis swept back hair style. The Iconic Norton motorbike was the one that was a favourite along with Triumph both names from a glorious motor bike British made bikes.

It was a time for motorbikes and scooters and the freedom of the roads and cafes girlfriends were loyal either a mod or a rocker and the favourite pastime was fighting in the streets of sea side resorts at bank holidays! The motorbike has gone on with the emerging market from the far east and Japan domanating the sports side of motorbikes.Grantham Honda motorbikes.

As for scooters still a smart choice and old models holding up well on the value front and no doubt if the weather is good we will see them out on the roads flat out at about 60 mph, hotly over taken by some mad rocker doing a ton up 100 mph oh what goldern days!
